Minimum System Requirements

To ensure reliable performance of the QEST4 software, your computer must meet the following:

Operating System

• Windows 11 Home or Pro
• Mac users must run Windows via Parallels (note: Bluetooth connectivity issues may occur, and support is limited for Mac setups)

Hardware

• Storage: Minimum 8 GB available space
  • Recommended: 256 GB+ SSD
• Memory (RAM): Minimum 8 GB
  • Recommended: 16 GB+ for optimal performance
• Processor (CPU):
  • Intel or AMD processor
  • Minimum 1.6 GHz
  • Recommended: Higher GHz for better performance

General Guidance

• Most non-refurbished computers purchased within the last 2–3 years will meet these requirements.

⚠️ Important Hardware Notes

ARM / Snapdragon Processors

• Some newer devices (e.g., certain Microsoft Surface models) use ARM-based processors (Snapdragon)
• These may require additional drivers for USB-connected systems to function properly

Screen Requirements

• Minimum resolution: 1366 × 768
• Minimum screen size: 15.6 inches
• Smaller screens may result in display and usability issues

Software & Security Recommendations

Antivirus

• Recommended: Windows Security (comes built into Windows)
• Not recommended: McAfee (can interfere with QEST4 software performance)

Firewalls

• QEST4 may need to be added as an exception in firewall settings if the software is not loading properly.

Usage Best Practices

System Updates

• Do not run updates immediately before client sessions
• Always test the system after updating to ensure stability

Dedicated System Use

• Ideally, the QEST4 system should run on a dedicated computer
• While other software can run alongside it, performance may vary

Bloatware

• Many new computers come with unnecessary pre-installed software
• Removing unused programs can significantly improve performance

Compatibility Limitations

• Not compatible with:
  • iPads or tablets
  • Smartphones (iOS or Android)
• Limited support for:
  • Mac systems running Parallels
  • Linux OS’s running a Virtual Machine program (WinApps) or a compatibility layer program (Wine)
  • Third-party IT providers unfamiliar with QEST4

Additional Recommendations

Electrodes (Handmass Cables)

• If you travel frequently or rely heavily on your system, maintaining a backup set is strongly recommended

Third-Party IT Support

• Most general IT technicians are not familiar with QEST4
• Always inform them about the system before any service or modifications
