Low-Tox Travel Tips: What I Pack for Wellness On-the-Go

Whether you’re heading out on a quick weekend trip or packing for a full-blown family vacation, travel has a way of pulling us out of our wellness rhythm. Add in airport air, sketchy snacks, and hotel soaps that smell like chemicals, and it’s easy to feel off by day two.Thankfully, I’ve found that with a little intention and a few trusty swaps, it’s totally possible to stay grounded, nourished, and well—even on the go. Today I’m sharing some of my favorite low-tox travel essentials to help you feel your best while away from home.

Non-Toxic Toiletries I Never Leave Home Without

  • Just Ingredients deodorant – The scents are light and clean (not overwhelming like most conventional brands), and I love knowing I’m not rolling aluminum and artificial fragrance into my lymph nodes every morning.
  • Attitude travel-size soap – I bring these for handwashing, dishes, shampoo and body wash if I’m staying somewhere with questionable options. I just dump some from my regular sized home bottle into a reusable travel dispenser and it works great.
  • Coconut oil – A tiny container of coconut oil goes a long way. I use it as moisturizer, lip balm, makeup remover, and even to calm skin if someone gets a little too much sun.

Travel-Friendly Immune Support & Snacks

  • Herbal tinctures – I keep a small travel kit of our most-used tinctures (like Kid-e-Well, Super Garlic Immune, and Lung & Bronchial tincture). These are a must if someone starts sniffling mid-trip.
  • Silver nasal spray – Planes and hotels = dry air and mystery germs. A few spritzes of silver nasal spray throughout the day can go a long way in keeping things moving and supported.
  • Fruit + dried snacks We pack organic apples, mandarins, or bananas when possible, and dried mangos or cashews as backups. A little forethought here saves us from hangry gas station moments.
  •  Hu chocolate – Because travel needs a treat—but not one that wrecks your gut. Their cashew butter + raspberry bar is my favorite! We also love their chocolate covered almonds.

Water & Food Storage Staples

Here are a few cleaner options I’ve used personally or would be willing to use. Fortunately, many of them can be found in regular stores like Walmart or Target, in case you’re looking last minute:

  • Reusable water bottle – Hydration on the go is so much easier when you bring your own bottle. I like stainless steel to avoid plastic (and it keeps things cold longer).
  • Reusable ziplock bags – Perfect for packing a quick lunch, saving leftovers, or offering a snack to the toddler without involving all those disposable plastic baggies.
  • Mini cooler bag – We toss this in the car with smoothies, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, or whatever else we want to keep cool. It’s saved us many times – even for just day trips out to a park!

Mindset: You Don’t Have to Be Perfect

I remind myself often that travel doesn’t have to look exactly like home. I can’t control every ingredient or every environment—but I can control what I pack, how I support myself, and how I show up.

A few thoughtful swaps and a little prep goes a long way. If something goes off the rails (because of course it will), I just reset at the next meal, the next night’s sleep, or the next barefoot moment in the grass.

If you’re taking care of your skin, make sure your sunscreen isn’t silently working against your health. Switch to mineral-based, toxin-free options that protect you and the planet.
