Low Tox Gift Ideas

As one who has spent the last few years reducing toxins and sugar, I don’t love the superficial gifts during the holiday season. It’s fun when someone thinks to give me something, and I’ll always appreciate that. But, to be quite honest, if I get a bag of candy or a plate of cinnamon rolls, I do put them in the garbage and I don’t feel bad. And if I get a smelly soap full of fragrances, I regift it or donate it. I’m just not going to consume or use those products, no matter how much I love the person who gave them to me!

So, I thought it might be helpful to put together a little list of gift ideas for the low tox person in your life. If that person is you, maybe you can get some ideas for what to ask for!

Food

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with fruit. It hits the spot when you need something sweet, but it also packs a nutritional punch with the vitamins, minerals, and fiber that go along with it. I would love it if someone gave me a little fruit basket! This time of year, pomegranates are fun. I also love citrus in the winter and a bag of grapefruit from Costco really does it for me.

Dried fruit is a fun alternative as well for a yummy holiday snack. I love dried mangos, bananas, and apples.

Another idea is spices. As someone who makes most of my food at home and doesn’t use lots of sweeteners, I love getting different flavors in through spices. If you have a favorite spice blend or a few spices you love to use, I’m sure your low tox friend would love to try, too!

For the chocolate lovers out there, I love the Hu brand of chocolates and treats. Their dark chocolate is great for those who don’t eat dairy. They have tons of different flavors and options, which is fun. I love the dark chocolate bars filled with cashew butter + raspberry. They also have almonds covered in dark chocolate and sea salt, which they call Chunks… YUM. You can get them at health food stores and on Amazon. If you’re wanting more candy-like treats, YumEarth is a better option than most conventional stuff out there. They are allergen free and don’t use artificial dyes or GMOs. This is where you can get your more “traditional” things for the holidays like candy canes and gummy candies.

Personal Care

I know a lot of people like to give little lotions or soaps and things like that for gifts. This is another area where toxins like fragrances are plentiful and we don’t want that!

You probably know by now I love anything from Just Ingredients. They have a wonderful Face Serum that I’m gifting to a few friends this year. They also have great healthier deodorant options for men and women, lip balm, lotion, dry shampoo, and more! During Christmas they release some peppermint flavored things to be more festive.

For soaps and air freshening sprays, I love Attitude! They also have tons of makeup and skin care options. There’s even a gift ideas section on their site if you want them to do all the work for you.

Dr. Squatch offers some good soaps and personal care products for the men in your life.

If you don’t want to risk it on food and personal care products…

Sometimes it’s easier to avoid gifting toxins when you go for things people won’t consume or put on their bodies! And there are so many options.

This year, I’m giving my neighbors a children’s Christmas book! Fun, festive, and not food.

Potpourri is also a fun gift. Dried oranges and cinnamon sticks will smell delightful in their home without having to burn candles or bake a dessert.

Other ideas include:

  • Christmas crafts (ornaments, wreaths, garlands, etc.)
  • A small board game or card game
  • Puzzles
  • Dish towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Colorful pens
  • Sticky notes
  • Reusable water bottle

Going Big

Most of these ideas are on the smaller side, but what if you’re looking for something bigger? I got you.

How about some organic cotton bed sheets or a nice pillow?  While we’re on the topic of sleep, I asked for a grounding sheet this year, which I’m excited to try.

A red light therapy device would be fun for a health conscious friend.

Have you heard of Intelligent Threads clothing? They say they are “the world’s most advanced wearable technology able to release and relax muscles with no wires, straps, or external power sources.” It’s one of those things you kind of need to see to believe, but they’re awesome!

There you have it. Let me know what you end up getting for all your low tox friends and family! If you have any other suggestions to add to the list, I’m sure we’d all love to hear about them.
