Gentle, natural remedies for allergies that help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms in moms, kids, and families — without harsh medications or side effects.
You know that feeling when you step outside on a beautiful spring day… and within five minutes you’re sneezing, your eyes are itching, and you’re wondering why you even left the house?
Yep. Been there.
Seasonal allergies are no joke. And while I’m super grateful for modern medicine when it’s really needed, I’m always going to reach for gentle, holistic remedies first — especially for myself and my toddler.
Our bodies are designed to handle environmental triggers — pollen, dust, pet dander — but sometimes our systems just need a little extra support to get back in balance.
So, here’s my list of what I personally reach for when allergy season hits. Hopefully this gives you some ideas to try for yourself or your kids!
Use Local Raw Honey
This is probably the most well-known natural allergy remedy, and for good reason.
The idea is that consuming small amounts of local pollen (found in local honey) can help desensitize your body over time. It’s kind of like a natural allergy shot, without the needle.
What I Do:
I give my son a small spoonful of local raw honey daily during allergy season (never for babies under 1 year though!). I also love adding it to tea or drizzling over yogurt.
Herbal Tinctures
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m a big fan of herbal tinctures. For allergies, I keep a few specific ones on hand (all from Dr. Christopher – not affiliate):
Sinus Plus — Supports sinuses, of course.
Lung and Bronchial — Helps almost instantly when wheezing starts to kick in.
Immucalm — Not a tincture, but a great herbal remedy for helping your overactive immune system to chill out.
Kid-e-Soothe – The tincture version of Immucalm – ideal for kids!
What I Do:
I follow the dosage instructions and start giving these at the first sign of allergy symptoms — sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose — and sometimes even daily as a preventative during peak allergy months.
Flush Allergens with Neti Pot or Saline Rinse
Rinsing your sinuses with a saline solution is a game changer for allergies.
It helps flush out pollen, dust, and other irritants so they’re not just sitting in your sinuses causing inflammation. This year is my first allergy season doing this daily right from the start and it’s already helped so much!
What I Do:
For me, I’ll use a Neti pot before bed every night. I’m still adding a drop of lemon oil and tea tree oil as recommended by my doctor and it’s been wonderful.
I haven’t been brave enough to try a full nasal rinse with my toddler, but I’ll use a silver nasal spray on him and he tolerates it just fine. See my nasal polyps blog post for more on both of those.
Eat an Anti-Inflammatory Diet for Natural Allergy Support
You knew I was going to say this, right?
If my son or I are really struggling with allergies, I always take a look at our food. Certain foods can increase mucus production or inflammation — and that can make allergy symptoms worse.
Things I Limit During Allergy Season:
- Dairy
- Processed sugar
- Refined carbs
Things I Add More Of:
- Fresh fruit + veggie juices
- Leafy greens
- Bone broth
- Omega-3 rich foods (like salmon, walnuts, chia seeds)
Strengthen Immunity with Regular Chiropractic Care
This might not be the first thing people think of for allergies, but I’ve seen such a difference in our family with consistent chiropractic care.
Aligning the spine and supporting the nervous system helps the whole body respond better to stress, including environmental stressors like pollen.
What I Do:
We go regularly for maintenance, but I definitely try to get us in more often when allergy season is in full swing. I also have a blog post all about chiropractic care if you want to lean into that aspect of your health.
Personalized Support with Bioenergetic Testing
Of course, I can’t leave this off the list.
One of my absolute favorite things about using the QEST4 system is the ability to get personalized feedback on what my body (or my son’s body) needs in that moment.
Sometimes allergies are just about pollen… but sometimes they’re a sign of deeper imbalances like gut health, liver congestion, or immune stress.
What I Do:
We scan regularly and follow the recommendations — whether that’s detox support, emotional balancing, or organ-specific remedies.
Final Thoughts
There are so many gentle, natural ways to support the body through allergy season.
Sometimes it’s just about trying a few things and seeing what works best for you. Everybody is different!
And remember, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Maybe you start with a little local honey in your tea, or add in a saline spray before bed. Every small step counts.
Have you tried any of these remedies? Do you have a favorite allergy hack I didn’t mention? I’d love to hear about your favorite natural allergy remedies you use for your family!
